14/50 - oh dear. I’ve been pretty generous with some of those, too. Singin’ in the Rain I’ve never seen from start to finish, but have seen from catching bits of it many times; looking it up on google images, a bored, if optimistic, teacher made us watch Tokyo Story during a media studies lesson once; the same goes for Battleship Potemkin with a (great) history teacher at college who, looking back, was clearly some sort of mellowed Marxist that taught our revolutionary Russia module a little to sympathetically; and I actually had La Jetee lined up to watch tonight because of Chris Marker’s recent passing, so for convenience sake (ahem) I’ll mark that as watched.
I’ve never been massively into film, and when I do gather my faculties to sit down and devote my attention to a film, stuff like Godfather, Taxi Driver feels too obvious to bother with, which I’m aware is a silly reason not to watch those films, but… Plus, certain choices seem pretty out there and arty, to my untrained eye anyway.
This seems like as good as an excuse as any to get around to the classics. I might report back on my progress, I might not.
